Frequently asked questions:
What’s different about The Wine Line from other tour services?
We are a door to door, “Hop On, Hop Off” shuttle service. We let you set your pace and create your own itinerary. We pick you up at your accommodations and start you on our loops. We service approximately 30 wineries in the region and you just pick and choose where you want to “hop on” and “hop off” all day long.
How much does it cost?
In keeping with our mission of freedom and flexibility, we have a few different fare options:
$99.95pp – Our a la carte, semi-private, door-to-door*, “hop on, hop off” wine tasting tour service, does not include lunch or tasting fees. We can provide lunch for an additional $15pp, you can bring your own, or you can “hop off” at one of the few wineries that offers lunch service, and tasting fees run $15-$20 and most wineries waive it if you purchase a certain amount of wine.
$139.95pp – Our All-Inclusive fare which includes lunch and tastings at your choice of 4 from an abridged list of wineries. You can “hop off” at your choice of 4 out of 8 Foxen Canyon wineries. For the All-Inclusive Tour an 18% gratuity is added (based upon seat cost, plus lunch [$104.95pp], and location charge, if any) payable to the driver directly, or left on the booking card, as well.
Additionally, we offer Private Tours (from $109.95pp) and you can review those details and fares from the Experiences menu dropdown.
*pickup is included for Solvang, Buellton, Santa Ynez or Los Olivos city limits. Location charges apply outside of these areas
How does it work?
When you decide to “hop off” we walk you in, introduce you to the tasting room staff, who will guide you through your tasting experience, and we return in approximately 40 minutes. When we return we come in and let you know we’re back, and if you’re ready to go, you just “hop on” and proceed to the next winery of your choice. Typically we take you directly from winery to winery throughout the day, so it almost feels like a private tour. Occasionally we may have to pick up others along the way. But, we’re not like a city bus, stopping at every stop in the loop. We basically “hop-scotch” around from winery to winery.
Where do you pick up?
We are a door to door service, so we pick you up at your accommodations, whether it’s a hotel, B&B, inn or residence. Pick up and return in the Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buellton and Los Olivos region is included. Pickups outside of these cities are first to be picked up and last to be returned. Additional pick up charges apply for outside areas (per party, not per person) as follows:
Santa Barbara Pick Up Charges:
• Gaviota-$35
• Goleta-$45
• Guadalupe-$45
• Lake Cachuma-$25
• Lompoc-$35
• Nipomo-$45
• Orcutt-$35
• Santa Barbara-$45
• Santa Maria-$40
• Vandenberg AFB-$45
• If your pick up city is not listed we may not pick up there. Please contact us to inquire about different pick up cities.
What time are pick ups and what time does the day end?
Pick ups are generally scheduled between 10:30-11:30am and coordinated geographically based upon the other pick ups for the day. Pick ups outside of the Santa Ynez, Buellton and/or Solvang area are first to be picked up and last to be returned. We will call you between 9:30-10am on the morning of service to give you a more specific pick up time. Please bear in mind we may have additional pick ups before or after your group along the way. We begin our returns after 4:00pm.
Are the tasting fees included?
Of the 30+ wineries we service, most charge $15-$20 with some waiving the fees with purchase.
Tasting fees ARE included in our “All-Inclusive” package which includes lunch and tasting fees at your choice of 4 of these following wineries: Andrew Murray, Fess Parker ($10pp Surcharge), Foxen, Foxen 7200 (“The Shack”), Kenneth Volk (Th-M), Koehler, Tres Hermanas or Zaca Mesa
Is lunch included?
As you are going to be out all day, lunch is always a concern. You can bring your own picnic which we will carry in our cooler until you are ready to enjoy it. You can buy The Wine Line Gourmet Lunch (either a full sandwich, or 1/2 & 1/2 sandwich & salad, please see our Lunch Menu) for $15pp or it is included in the “All Inclusive” rate. Finally, you may choose to be taken into Los Olivos and eat at any of the restaurants or delis in town. We only need to know in advance, preferably by the day before your tour, if we are providing your lunch.
How many wineries will I visit?
You will visit 4-5 wineries in your day, depending upon where you are picked up, which wineries are on your itinerary, how long you stay at each winery and what you do for lunch.
Which wineries do you service?
We service over 30 wineries between Los Olivos and Foxen Canyon. You can view the full list on the “Wineries” page on our website and the “Tour Maps” page shows where they are all situated. If you have specific wineries you’d like to visit for your day, we strongly recommend you plan them out sequentially, so as not to waste chunk of your day driving between them. If you have no specific requests, we can certainly make recommendations.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of people?
Yes. We have a minimum of 2ppl, unless we have other bookings for the day requested, in which case we can accommodate singles. The maximum is 11ppl.
Do you offer group rates?
We do not have special rates for groups. For parties of 7 or more, we are required to make appointments with the wineries. Rather than doing our “hop on, hop off” service, you’d be doing a scheduled service. From the wineries we service, we will create an itinerary, based upon your requests or our recommendations, and will call to make the appointments. Your driver(s) will walk you in, introduce you to the staff and then return approximately 10 minutes prior to your next appointment. We are not a limo service so our drivers won’t be waiting while you taste. We will have other customers to attend to while you are at your appointments. We do add an 18% gratuity for parties of 7 or more. Our vans hold a maximum of 11 passengers.
What is your cancellation policy?
72 hour notice for groups of 6 or less and 2 weeks for groups of 7 or more. Should you cancel prior to these time frames there is no fee, however, afterward you will be charged for the entire amount. This applies to a reduction in group size, as well. Should your group reduce in size you will be charged for those seats if we are not notified within the above referenced time frames.
Is the tour “pet friendly’?
Yes, we do allow well behaved dogs to sit on their human’s laps or between their legs. Please keep in mind our $300 clean up fee for any “mess.”

How it Works
The Wine Line is a totally unique concept in wine tasting tours. We offer an affordable, “hop on, hop off” semi-private and private shuttle style service operated by professional and courteous drivers who are well versed in the area’s wineries. As opposed to other wine touring services that keep you bound to a set schedule, with a preset itinerary, with a group of people you will be stuck with all day long – The Wine Line offers you freedom from these constraints for one low-cost.
Our vans run in a constant loop, picking up and dropping off customers approximately every 40 minutes at whichever wineries we service that they desire to visit. We return in approximately 40 minutes to pick you up, but if you want to stay a while longer, just say so and we’ll return later. Our mission is freedom and flexibility, empowering you to embrace the wine country!
