May has arrived and brought with it green grass, wild flowers, and warm days. It’s also brought some wonderful treasures for our friends at Sextant,

They’re about to release the first wine club shipment of the year, featuring six fantastic new wines for every palate to enjoy. Join them for the pick-up party at their Old Edna tasting room this Saturday from 4 to 7 PM. If you’re interested in joining their club, give them a call and they’ll weclome you aboard!

This month we’ll all be celebrationg the Paso Robles Wine Festival, from May 18-20. The Sextant crew will be in the beautiful City Park in downtown Paso for the Grand Tasting event on Saturday, pouring a choice selection of their finest wines.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the Grand Tasting: starting May 18th you’ll have the opportunity to visit their new tasting room! They’d like to graciously invite everyone to their new home on Paso’s picturesque West Side, so you can “hop off” for a tour.

Those fabulous and fun folks at Rio Seco are gearing up for the season.  Here are a couple things on the horizon over there:

WINE FESTIVAL:
Getting ready to celebrate wine in Paso Robles May 18-20th.  Hope to see you at the Rio Seco for their Sunday afternoon Taco Time and Nacho Fiesta Bar. 1:00-4:00 p.m., there is NO charge, of course, there will be music, too!  If you will update any changes to your credit card information, club members can pick up your May CLUB RIO wine shipment then too.  All other shipments will be sent out the following week, just in time for the summer BBQ season.  They have an unexpected opening in the Guest House that weekend if you are still searching for lodging. Give them a call if they can help you out!
SEAFOOD & SANGRIA PARTY!
Rio Seco’s annual kickoff to the summer begins with an embracing of the “good life” with delicious  Seafood (from Pier 46) & Sangria(Shauna’s secret recipe!).  Throw in the party sounds of Impromptu and 6 bottles of wine and you’re off and running!  Mark it on your calendar for June 2nd, 6-10 p.m. Only $65! Space is limited  for this party and tickets will sell out – everyone last year, even in the rain, had a fantastic time! April Showers bring May flowers?  We sure hope so!  However, hoping for clear skies for Pianetta’s first Papagallo Wine Cruiseof the season (Sat. 4/21). Also, get ready for the release of their latest JUG blend- Le Jug, a french blend of Cabernet, Syrah and Malbec, available in their tasting room now.

This may be the calm before the storm, as MAY is very busy for Pianetta! They’ll be bottling their 2010 vintage Sangiovese, Cabernet, Syrah, Bilancio, Tuscan Nights and Barbera, along with their 2011 Nonna’s Vino Rosato and THEIR PINK JUGS! Also, they have their Annual Member Party and then next month!

Blending Seminar And Luncheon At The Winery
Be a Winemaker for a Day!
Saturday, April 7th at 10am
Join Edward Sellers for this small intimate gathering of fun and education.  Ed Sellers and Jeremy Weintraub, Winemaker, will lead you through their  process of creating the blends you have come to know and love. The blending seminar will offer their wine club members and guests the opportunity to play winemaker for a day.  Participants have the opportunity to get to know each of their Rhone varietals and then learn what each does in a blend  (depth, fruit, spice, etc.) After learning the process, the group will be separated into pairs, each pair given the opportunity to experiment with their new found knowledge and create their own special blend.
After the seminar enjoy a beautiful lunch on the Patio with one of your favorite Edward Sellers wines.  Limited to 26 people.

Spring Wine Club Is Coming!
It’s time for the Spring Cellar Club shipment and Edward Sellers is excited to release their first offering from the estate, the 2009 Inception.  This beautiful blend of their estate Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre is a wine you are going to want more of for your cellar.  At only 198 cases produced, it won’t be around long.  Also, in this shipment is the 2011 Rosé made of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah. This wine is the perfect wine for your spring and summer outdoor entertaining.
