Niner Wine Estates Harvest Wine Tours

Greetings Wine Linos!

To get a little taste of the harvest experience, sign up for Niner Wine Estates’ Harvest Seminar and Tour  and let their team take you on a journey from grape to glass. This 90 minute – 2 hour program will tour you through the vineyards to see and taste the fruit as it reaches optimal ripeness. You will then visit the winemaking facilities to witness the sorting and crushing of the fruit, then return to the Hospitality Center to taste through a sampling of juice as well as partially-made and finished wines to illustrate how some of the choices made by the winemaker affect the final flavors of the wine.

This program will be offered every Saturday through harvest — September 25th until October 23rd — starting at 1:00 p.m. Tuition for the Harvest Seminar and Tour will be $45 per person, but if you’re a CLUB 9 member, they will apply your discount. For further information and to make reservations, visit www.ninerwine.com or contact the Niner Wine Estates Tasting Room at 805.239.2233. Due to limitations on the class size, reservations are required.

Just let your Wine Line representative know you have a Harvest Seminar and Tour reservation when you make your booking (either in the comments field when booking online, or directly when booking over the phone) and we’ll make sure to get you there.

Until the next drop.

Edward Sellers New 46 West Tasting Room

Greetings Wine Linos!

Edward Sellers has opened their new tasting room on Paso’s wonderful West side and you can now “hop off” there on your West side tour.  Their beautiful new facility is set among the vines, overlooking their vineyards at 1401 Highway 46 West.

Edward Sellers creates wonderful artisan wines.  They were listed in the March 2009 issue of Wine Spectator on the list of “10 Emerging California Rhône Producers”.  The wines have also received the attention of leading wine critics, including Robert Parker, who recently lauded four Edward Sellers wines.  He gave the 2007 Cognito (a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Zinfandel, and Grenache) 90 points, calling it a “head turner.”  The 2007 Vertigo (a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah) also received 90 points, the 2007 Blanc du Rhône, (a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier) earned 88 points, and the 2007 Cuvée des Cinq (a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Counoise, and Cinsault), which Robert describes as “seductive,” received 90 points.

So, ask your driver to take you to their new facility and “hop off” for an incredible tasting!

Until the next drop.

3rd Annual Pianetta Palooza!

Greetings Wine Lino’s!

What is Pianetta Palooza & Why should I go?
A tradition started 3 years ago. They have a huge open pit BBQ at the Vineyard to celebrate the Harvest season with their customers. They pull out all the stops. They have hired The Jammies, a live band, specializing in classic rock, funk, and blues! They bring in “seasoned” professionals who know their way around an open flame! Participate in their renowned cornhole competition. (Cornhole is basically a bean (corn) bag toss, so don’t worry you will have some fun). Barrel tasting! Wholesale prices for one day only on cases of wine! These prices are typically reserved for their wholesale accounts, restaurants and specialty shops buying 10+cases at a time. Also, be the first to try their inaugural vintage of Barbera!  The question becomes…. Why SHOULDN’T you go?

When and how much is it?
It will take place on Saturday October 9, 2010 from 2-6pm. Pianette Wine Club Members can purchase tickets for $35, $45 if you haven’t joined the club yet.

Where should I stay in Paso Robles?
We have blocked rooms at the Courtyard Marriott and La Bellasera, the block expires soon, so don’t wait! Are you coming with a group? Check out the vacation rentals at www.pasoroblesvacationrentals.com

How do I get there?
They will send directions out when the event gets closer. But, the ranch is located 14 miles north of downtown Paso Robles. (about 20 minutes)

How can I be safe?  Designate a driver or take the Ride-On shuttle.
There is a Ride-on shuttle picking up at selected Paso Robles hotels for $15 per person. Save yourself from getting lost while being responsible. We care about your safety.

How can I sign up?
Call the tasting room 805-226-4005. Email info@pianettawinery.com. Or sign up online, here. Club members will be charged the first week of October to their card on file, unless otherwise specified.

First Crush Final Workshop Sat. 8/21

Greetings Wine Linos!

Brix & Bins

Get out and join First Crush for their last Summer Winemaking workshop at Silver Horse Winery. This is a super cool way to spend a morning in wine country.  You’ll get to go beyond the tasting room to tour the winery and vineyard and find out what’s going on as the growers and winemakers get ready for harvest.  At this three hour workshop, Craig is going to take you on a tour of the winery and talk to you about the equipment we use to process the grapes and let you explore the process from bins to yeast.

Out in the vineyard, Lowell’s going to show you how to use a refractometer and let you actually sugar sample some of the grapes. You’ll also have a chance to taste them and decide for yourself how ripe they are.

You’ll also have the chance to barrel sample their First Crush 2009 wines and discover for yourself what a difference an oak barrel can make.  You’ll top off the day with a tasting of Craig’s Tassajara wines paired with some artisan cheeses.
