How does your Semi-Private, modified "Hop On, Hop Off" Paso Robles wine tour work?
The Wine Line is a totally unique wine tasting tour service. In addition to fully Private and customized wine country tours, we offer our distinctive Semi-Private Tours. In keeping with our mission of “Freedom and Flexibility,” while recognizing that the majority of wineries now require reservations, we operate a modified version of our signature “Hop On, Hop Off” service, as follows:
- You pick ’em, we book ’em! – We personalize your itinerary with your choice of wineries depending on the tour option you choose!
- Door–to-Door pickup & return – Whether a hotel, motel, Airbnb, RV, etc., we’ll come to you, and return you, and your wine with you, at the end of the day!
- You’ve got options! – Choose from Semi-Private or Private; à la carte, lunch added, or All-Inclusive; One day, or Multi-Day Pass!
- Pick your pace! – Maximize your day with a standard 4 stop itinerary, about an hour at each winery, or luxuriate with a more leisurely pace to soak up the experience, you tell us!
On the day of service, we may have other people on board, or to pickup after you, in the morning, but you will have your own itinerary and appts. You will “hop off” at your first appointment, we’ll walk you up, introduce to the staff who will do your pouring and tasting.
Then, we will take the other folks to their desired wineries, return to you about 15mins. prior to the departure for your next appointment to give you a little notice to finish the tasting, make any purchases, etc., so you’ll be ready to move on to y0ur next appointment.
From that point on, it typically almost feels like a private tour; while you’re tasting we’re shuttling the others, and while they’re tasting we’re shuttling you.
In the event you have the same itinerary as another party, you will have separate reservations and can be seated apart, if you prefer.
Am I guaranteed to visit my requested wineries on my semi-private tour?
You are more likely to be guaranteed your desired wineries with our Private Tour as we can start your itinerary immediately.
While not guaranteed with our Semi-Private Tours, we do our absolute best to accommodate the top priorities of all of our guests. That being said, please bear in mind that there is limited availability, or very specific times slots, etc., at many of the wineries, and we must book all appointments in conjunction with our other customers’ itineraries for the day, which can be limiting. It’s a logistical puzzle we need to put together and we cannot confirm the itineraries until the day sells out, the van assignment fills up, or we are closer to the date.
We will send your confirmed itinerary, along with your specific pickup time, the evening prior to your tour, no later than 8:00pm, and your driver will call you about an hour before on the morning of service to reconfirm.
Where do you pick up?
We are a door to door service! We pick you up at your accommodations, whether it’s a Paso Robles hotel, San Luis Obispo B&B, Morro Bay Inn, or Pismo Beach Airbnb, or whatever. Pick up and return within Paso Robles, Templeton or Atascadero city limits is included. Outside regions are first to be picked up and last to be returned. Additional location charges apply for outside areas (per group, added on the total, NOT per person) as follows:
• Arroyo Grande – $85
• Avila Beach – $70
• Cambria – $60
• Cayucos – $60
• Creston – $40
• Grover Beach – $90
• Lake Nacimiento/Heritage Ranch – $40
• Los Osos – $90
• Morro Bay – $60
• Oceano – $100
• Paso Robles-Rural (NOT City Limits) – $30
• Pismo Beach – $75
• San Luis Obispo – $60
• San Miguel (City Limits) – $30
• San Miguel (Rural) – $50
• San Simeon – $80
• Santa Margarita (Town Limits) – $40
• Shell Beach – $70
• Templeton Countryside – $30
• If your pick up city is not listed we may not pick up there. Oceano is the furthest south we can go. Please contact us to inquire about different pick up cities.
What time are pick ups and what time does the day end?
Pick ups for our Paso Robles wine tasting tours are generally scheduled for between 10:30-11:30am and coordinated geographically based upon the other pick ups for the day, with outside regions picked up first and returned last. We will call you between 9:30-10am on the morning of service to give you a more specific pick up time. We begin our returns from your last winery around 4:00pm, give or take. Late pick ups and early returns may be possible upon request, only within the Paso Robles, Templeton or Atascadero city limits.
Which wineries do you service?
We service over 90 premier Paso Robles wineries, between the East side, West side/Tin City & Ramada Row, and the Downtown Wine District. You can view the lists of the wineries, along with a brief descriptions, website links under the “Experiences” menu drop down, and the Paso wine maps under the “Plan A Trip” menu shows where they are all situated.
For the list of the wineries in the All-Inclusive package, please refer to that at-a-glance page here.
Please note: due to increasingly poor traffic conditions we are most likely unable to accommodate winery visits on both East and West sides on the same day, and not on weekend days. You can request anything, and if we are able to accommodate it, we certainly will. If you do not select a route in advance, following our correspondence, we will pick the route and/or wineries that work best logistically.
Do you have a Paso Robles winery map for the wineries you service?
We actually have a few for the different loops we service with our Semi-Private Paso Robles wine tastings tours! You can view the Paso wine maps under the “Plan A Trip” menu dropdown and over to “Plan Your Trip” or you can click the links below to view each of them directly:
Paso Robles East side wineries map
Paso Robles West side wineries map
What if I’m not familiar with the Paso Robles wineries?
You will be when we’re done with ya! 😉 Seriously though, feel free to reach out after booking for recommendations by calling directly or replying to your confirmation email with any inquiries.
Also, our drivers are well versed in the Paso Robles wineries we service, what types of wines they offer, their settings, etc., and will be happy to make recommendations on the day of your wine tasting tour to tailor the day to your desires.
Are the tasting fees included?
Of the 90+ Paso Robles wineries we service, a few do offer complimentary tastings for our customers. Most charge $20-$30 and waive it if you purchase wine, and the remaining handful charge $20-$30 but don’t waive it with purchase.
While it’s not “free wine tasting,” tasting fees ARE included in our All-Inclusive Package* which includes lunch and tasting fees at your choice of up to 4 of these following wineries (choose West side/Tin City & Ramada Drive OR East side; subject to change without notice):
West side – Barton Family/Grey Wolf, Broken Earth Winery, Croad Vineyards, Dark Star Cellars, Doce Robles Winery, Hunt Cellars, Midnight Cellars, SummerWood, Windward Vineyards or Zin Alley; Tin City/Ramada Drive – Al Lago Wines (F-Su or by appt), Anglim, Brian Benson (F-Su or by appt), Broken Earth Winery, Cordant/Nelle (Th-M or by appt), Kaleidos (F-Su or by appt), Powell Mountain (F-Su or by appt) or Seven Oxen Estate (F-M or by appt)
East side – Bianchi, Eberle Winery, Glunz Family, Le Vigne Winery, Paris Valley Road, Penman Springs (Th-M), Rails Nap (F-Su), Steinbeck Vineyards or Via Vega (F-Su or by appt)
*The All-Inclusive fare is an additional $80pp (plus gratuity). For 7+ppl caveats apply/see All-Inclusive Package Page or FAQ.
Is lunch included?
We can provide our Paso Robles lunch for $20pp added to our à la carte Paso Robles wine tours. It includes a delicious, gourmet sandwich and choice of sides, or a large salad main. (Our Paso Robles lunch menu is linked above under Plan a Trip). Otherwise, you can choose to “hop off” at one of the few wineries that offer lunch service, or bring your own picnic and we’ll carry it in our cooler and help you find a nice vineyard at which to enjoy it.
Lunch IS included in our “All-Inclusive” fare.
What about gratuities? Are they included or expected?
Gratuities for your driver, and for your attendants at the wineries, are not included.
Regarding expectations, ask yourself, “Do you tip your Uber or Taxi driver?” They’re only with you for 20mins. or so, and just taking you to/from somewhere, whereas your driver will be with you for roughly 6 hours, introducing you at the wineries, carrying your purchases, offering you chips and water throughout the day, and generally taking care of you, making sure your experience is the best it can be! A customary tip would be 18% of the total cost of your tour, for reference.
Driver gratuity is added for All-Inclusive, Private and Large Party tours, and can be left on the booking card (except Large Parties), or, preferably, taken care of directly to the driver with cash, Venmo or Zelle. Large Parties are required to pay the gratuity with cash, Venmo or Zelle directly to the driver upon pickup.
How many wineries will I visit on our Paso Robles wine tour?
It’s really up to you! You can maximize your day with a standard 4 stop itinerary, about an hour at each winery, or luxuriate with a more leisurely pace and visit 3 wineries to soak up the experience, you tell us!
What is the All-Inclusive Package?
The All-Inclusive Package is your one-stop shopping solution for your Paso Robles wine tasting tour and adventure! It includes a gourmet box lunch, freshly prepared the morning of your tour, and tasting fees at your choice of up to 4* from the list of wineries below (one side or the other).
In keeping with our mission of freedom and flexibility, you choose up to 4* of the package wineries (or substitute one or more for a non-inclusive winery and pay the fees directly), and we pick the best of those vineyards at which to enjoy your lunch. The only thing you need to worry about is how much you’re going to spend on the wines you want to buy!
All-Inclusive Package Wineries
(choose West side/Tin City & Ramada Drive OR East side; Subject to change without notice)
West side – Barton Family/Grey Wolf, Broken Earth Winery, Croad Vineyards, Dark Star Cellars, Doce Robles Winery, Hunt Cellars, Midnight Cellars, SummerWood Winery, or Zin Alley; Tin City/Ramada Drive (ONLY tasting rooms, NOT vineyard properties) – Al Lago Wines (F-Su or by appt), Anglim, Brian Benson (F-Su or by appt), Broken Earth Winery, Kaleidos (F-Su or by appt), Powell Mountain (F-Su or by appt) or Seven Oxen Estate (F-M or by appt)
East side – Bianchi, Eberle Winery, Glunz Family, Le Vigne Winery (cheese pairing addl. at winery), Paris Valley Road, Penman Springs (Th-M), Rails Nap, Steinbeck Vineyards or Via Vega
*The All-Inclusive fare is an additional $80pp (plus gratuity)
For 7+ppl the following caveats apply:
• Due to the extended time required for large parties at each winery, the Package will include 3 wineries for a standard day, or some Overtime will be necessary to include 4 ($60/hr. billed in 15min. increments).
• Gratuities at some wineries will be required and additional, including, but not limited to, Croad ($2pp), Midnight Cellars ($2pp), Paris Valley Road (20% on standard fee), Bianchi (20-30% on standard fee, depending on party size), and others TBA. We will inform and confirm with the booking customer prior to finalizing appointments at these wineries.
• Depending upon multiple factors (party size, winery seating availability, staffing, etc.) your party may be split into separate tables or sections. We will inform and confirm with the booking customer prior to finalizing appointments at these wineries.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of people?
Yes. We have a minimum of 2ppl for any of our wine tours.
Unfortunately, we are currently not servicing single passengers due to the work required to accommodate the single appointments at the wineries, coordinating with our other parties’ logistics within our Semi-Private Tours, etc. It’s simply untenable, financially. Alternatively, a single person could opt to pay for two seats (which we understand is a bit of a preclusion).
If you would like to do that, you can make your reservation online at anytime and indicate in the comments section you are paying for two seats, but are a solo traveller. If you choose the All-Inclusive package, we would only charge for the second seat ($89.95), not the lunch and tasting fees portion ($60).
The maximum for one group together split between 3 vans would be 28. For out of the area pick ups the maximum is 20ppl between 2 vans on Saturdays.
Are children allowed/Is there an age limit?
What about large parties and group rates?
We do have a sliding scale based upon party sizes with changes at the following points: up to 3ppl, 4-6ppl, 7+ppl. This applies differently, but for both our Private and Semi-Private Modified “Hop On, Hop Off” Tours. Please review the Pricing page for the specifics.
There are a few caveats for large parties, i.e., 7 or more, as follows:
• Due to the extended time required for large parties at each winery, Large Parties are limited to 3 wineries for a standard day. Overtime at $60/hr., billed in 15min. increments can be added to include a 4th winery.
• The All-Inclusive Package will include 3 wineries for a standard day, or, per above, some Overtime will be necessary to include 4 ($60/hr. billed in 15min. increments).
For A la Carte customers, wineries will add and charge the lead customer directly. For All-Inclusive Customers this will be added to the booking customer’s total.
• Wineries may have additional caveats such as minimum spends, surcharges, etc. We will advise prior to securing appointments.
• Depending upon multiple factors (party size, winery seating availability, staffing, etc.) your party may be split into separate tables or sections. We will inform and confirm with the booking customer prior to finalizing appointments at these wineries.
Now, all of that being said, from the wineries we service and depending upon the type of tour you book, we will create an itinerary, based upon your requests, or our recommendations if you are unfamiliar with the region, and will call to make the appointments on your behalf, if they will accommodate your party size.
For our Semi-Private tours, we are not a limo service so our drivers won’t be waiting while you taste. They will walk you up, introduce you to the staff and then return approximately 10-15 minutes prior to your next appointment. That being said, you will be the only people on board from pickup, to and from your winery appointments, and upon return, but we will be shuttling other folks while you are tasting.
Some other large party specific notes:
- We require no deposit, just a credit card to confirm. Your card is not charged or even authorized for anything until the day of service. We have a two week cancellation policy for parties of 7 or more and this applies to a reduction in group size as well. If you cancel or adjust your group size outside of the 2 weeks, there is no charge, after that, you are responsible for the entire confirmed amount.
- Our vans hold 9 & 8 passengers, so 10 or more would require 2 or more vans. Your party would depart and arrive altogether, you’d just be split in transit for 5-15mins from appointment to appointment, and there would be no one else in the vans with you at that time
What if we purchase wine?
When your driver returns at each winery, s/he will collect your purchases, store them in our cooler in the rear of the van, and return them along with you to your accommodations at the end of the day.
What is your cancelation policy?
72 hour notice for groups of 6 or less for weekdays and standard weekends, 1 week for holiday weekends; 2 weeks for groups of 7 or more for weekdays and standard weekends, 3 weeks for holiday weekends. Should you cancel prior to these time frames there is no charge. However, afterward the following charges will apply:
Parties of 6 or less – 48-71hrs = 50%, 25-47hrs = 75%, 24hrs or less will be charged for the entire amount. Holiday Weekends will be 100% if not 72hrs in advance.
Parties of 7 or more – As stated above; no exceptions.
Any bookings made within the 72hr time frame are considered confirmed and non-refundable.
Please note, should your group reduce in size you will be charged for those seats if we are not notified within the above referenced time frames.
Do you offer private tours?
Yes, we do offer fully private Paso Robles wine tours every day, except most Saturdays, and will take you to any of the 300+ wineries in the region. You can review our Private Tour Experience FAQ page for complete details.
Our Paso Robles Private Tours have a sliding rate. As the group size goes up, the price per person, goes down. The weekday pricing is $99.95pp for up to three, $89.95pp up to six, $84.95pp for seven or more; Saturday pricing, only if available, is $99.95pp (no discounts/sliding scale applied). We do add an 20% gratuity for all Private Tours. San Luis Obispo and Coastal tours would have additional charges. Note: If Saturdays are available, there may be an additional surcharge or minimum number of people not reflected in this pricing. Please contact for Saturday availability and/or details for an accurate quote based upon your particulars.
Is the tour “pet friendly?"
Yes, we do allow clean and well behaved dogs to “hop on” for our Paso Robles wine tasting tours. The little buddy MUST sit on their human’s laps or between their legs, NOT ON THE SEATS, be leashed in hand and well behaved at all times, and we require him/her to be brushed vigorously prior to the tour. Also, it is MANDATORY for you to notify us that you will be bringing a dog WHEN YOU MAKE your reservation, either online in the comments section or directly over the phone, as we need to notify the wineries and/or book dog-friendly wineries. Also, this is a Semi-Private Tour (unless Private Tour is booked) so we need to check with other customers about any possible allergies or aversions. Dogs brought on the day of service without prior approval will not be accepted.
Lastly, please bear two things in mind: First, if your dog is not well behaved and creating issues on the tour, we will end your tour without refund, returning you to your accommodations or a waiting location until an out of the area return can be made, if necessary; Second, excessive hair or any other “mess” can trigger our $300 cleaning fee. our $300 clean up fee for any “mess” which can include excessive dog hair or otherwise (hence the required brushing, for ALL dogs, short, long, or otherwise haired 😉). Most, but not all, of the Paso Robles wineries are dog friendly as well (note: we may not service all on our Semi-Private tours).
Do you offer special event services?
We do offer special event transportation for winemaker dinners, winery parties, weddings, etc. Due to our tour service hours we are limited in the pick up times. The cost is $100/hr per van with a 4hr minimum and a 20% gratuity. Please contact directly for booking info.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
*TIMELINESS/OVERTIME POLICY*: Your pickup time, and confirmed itinerary, will be emailed to you by the evening prior to your tour. Please be aware, if your entire party is not ready to depart at the front end of the pickup time drivers are required to leave after 5 minutes from their arrival, out of respect to our other customers’ day and experience. At that time you will be responsible to arrange to meet up with the tour, in keeping with the itinerary, or forfeit the reservation at full charge. Next, we know you don’t want the day to end, but end, it must! You will have a set end time which will conveyed to you with your itinerary. The end time is defined as the time your driver is beginning your return from your last winery. If you exceed that time, you may be charged Overtime at a rate of $60/hr, including added gratuity. Your driver will notify you when you are going to be starting to accrue Overtime charges and you can make the decision to be timely and begin the return, or pay the Overtime charges.
*CANCELLATION POLICY*: 72 hour notice for groups of 6 or less for weekdays and standard weekends, 1 week for holiday weekends; 2 weeks for groups of 7 or more for weekdays and standard weekends, 3 weeks for holiday weekends.
*INTOXICATION*: We are here to help you have a wonderful day and we are certain you are going to, although we do ask that you be mindful of your consumption. Should we observe, or be notified by a tasting room server, that anyone in your party is becoming too intoxicated to continue we reserve the right to end your tour without refund.
*VEHICLE DAMAGE/CLEANING*: Please understand, our van doors are sensitive and can be easily damaged. Therefore we direct you, in no uncertain terms, NOT TO OPERATE THE DOORS at anytime, but to allow your driver to open and close them throughout your entire day. If a door is damaged due to your operation of them, you may be subject of up to $1000 in repairs! So please heed our warning. Additionally, there will be a $300 cleaning fee charged to the booking credit card for any “mess” made by anyone in your party inside the van.
*BELONGINGS/PURCHASES*: We are NOT responsible for forgotten purchases and belongings. Your purchases will be stored in our cooler and returned with you at the end of the day. However, YOU MUST account for any and all your purchases upon return to your accommodations. If the driver is not immediately made aware of any discrepancy, it will be your loss. If any personal items or purchases are left in the van after return to your lodgings, the driver’s time in returning these to you, strictly within Paso Robles, Templeton or Atascadero city limits, will be charged to the booking credit card. If it is discovered too late to arrange a local return (either by a driver, or by you picking up the item directly, or if your accommodations were not local)), you can arrange for the item(s) to be shipped to you by sending The Wine Line a prepaid shipping label and coordinating a direct pickup
